Nikon Corporation is a Japanese company that manufactures optics and imaging products. It was founded in 1917 as, in English, Japan Optical Industries Corporation. Renamed Nikon Corporation in 1988, it is one of the companies of the Mitsubishi Group. It is known for its one of digital and non-digital SLRs, compact cameras, and underwater film cameras. Its main competitors include Canon, Casio, Kodak and Sony.

The company is especially known for the Nikon Coolpix digital camera. It has two types: the Performance Series and the Style Series.
